Apple Event Highlights from the September 12 event

The annual Apple event kicked off today and it was the usual dog and pony show we’ve come to expect from Apple. If you didn’t have 2 hours to watch the keynote, we’ve pulled out the quick highlights for you.

The Beginning

The event started by unveiling the new Steve Jobs theater. Unless you are in love with buildings, you probably don’t care and were bored. Next they talked about Apple Stores. Again, ho-hum. The only thing interesting from this bit was that Apple wants you to now call them “Town Squares”. #NotGoingToHappen

 

Apple Watch

Finally the real meat started with the Apple Watch. They briefly talked about Watch OS 4, which was mostly a recap. The main focus here was on the heart rate features. The big take away is that it’s a free update for everyone on September 19th. 

Then they introduced the Apple Watch Series 3. Here are the big takeaways:

  • Now includes cellular service
  • It uses your same phone number
  • You can make calls, text, use maps, etc.., all without being near your phone.
  • If you have Apple Music and AirPods, you can stream music without your phone.
  • New dual core CPU, 70% faster
  • Siri can now talk on the Apple watch
  • The cellular Antenna is worked around the glass display, meaning no antenna protrudes
  • Has in integrated sim
  • Same size as the Series 2
  • New band and colors
  • Price: Series 3: $399 • Non Cellular Series 3: $329 • Series 1: $249

  • Now with 4k and HDR Support
  • The UI has been redone
  • Uses the A10x chip (vs A8 chip of the previous ten)
  • 4k Movies the same price as HD
  • Free 4k updates to HD movies you own
  • There was a game demo, if that’s your thing
  • Pre-order 9/15, Ships 9/22
  • Price: $179 for 32gb Apple TV 4k
