Holmes: Sherlock & Mycroft – Game of the Week

When it comes to themes in games, it seems that Sherlock Holmes is fast becoming one of the more popular ones. This famous detective gets to join the ranks of Zombies, Cthulhu, and trading games set in the Mediterranean region as frequently seen themes that people can’t seem to get enough of.

From more abstract games, like the new edition of Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, to more traditional games like Beyond Baker Street, gamers have quite a few options for getting their sleuthing fix in. However our newest Game of the Week puts players into the role of the Holmes brothers as they seek to prove which of them is the brightest mind in London.

Holmes: Sherlock & Mycroft

Holmes: Sherlock and MycroftGames of Holmes: Sherlock & Mycroft last 7 days (rounds) as each player is trying to acquire the most of each type of investigation card. Majority control is the name of the game here and to do that, players will seek the assistance of famous people from the Arthur Conan Doyle books. Each round, players will have three actions to spend talking to different characters, each of which will provide either a way to get Evidence Cards or Investigation Tokens.

As the rounds progress, a new character is revealed each day, (with some not even appearing in the game), so each game will play out slightly different. There are also variant cards that can be added to the game to make the game play either harder or easier. This helps to up the replay value in Holmes: Sherlock & Mycroft.

I case you didn’t notice from the above, Holmes: Sherlock & Mycroft is strictly a 2 player only game. While that doesn’t help people with large game groups, it does make it an ideal game to play with a friend or spouse. In fact, the rules are pretty intuitive and easy to pick up, so this one can definitely be played with a non-gamer.

While Holmes: Sherlock & Mycroft might not be the deepest use of the Sherlock Holmes theme, it’s definitely a fun game to play, and that helps me forgive the pasted on theme. If you are looking for an entertaining 2 player only game, than Holmes: Sherlock & Mycroft should absolutely be on your radar.
